Nova Centurion News and Updates - May 2025

Welcome to our May monthly news & updates – we needed our sunglasses on to write this blog – let’s hope this fabulous weather is here to stay!  May is a good month to take a breather after the recent influx of competitions, look at the programme and go again for cycle 3. But as Coach Joseph Stanford says ‘it’s never over’.

We do want to take a moment away from the swimming and give a special mention to all that are taking their GCSE or A-Level exams during May/June.  We appreciate it’s a tough time balancing it all, but just like swimming, try not to focus on the outcome but the process.

You’ve got this!

May Highlights | Racing

End of April/beginning of May is always focused on the East Midlands Long Course Championships.  A busy 2 weekends of racing at both Derby and Corby saw NOVA Centurion take a small army of over 70 swimmers to compete.  An incredible few days of racing saw NOVA swim away with a staggering 19 Gold, 41 Silver and 35 Bronze medals – a very impressive haul and an improvement on our 2024 medal collection.

As always massive congratulations to all our swimmers who qualified and competed, also a big thank you to our coaching team and volunteers for their ongoing support with all swimmers. It always takes a team to be this good!

Summer Nationals | Qualifying Window Closes

It’s a tough time of the year as swimmers all over the country try to compete and become one of the fastest swimmers in their age group to qualify for the summer nationals.  The window opened back in March, with the closing date of 11th May.

We are very pleased to announce that nearly 30 swimmers have qualified. We are very excited to focus on the next cycle of training and see what these incredible swimmers can do at their respective summer nationals.

Also let’s not forget we still have Open Water qualification coming up in June!  With some strong distance swimmers on the programme we are looking forward to this one!

Food for Thought | Nutrition Talk Take 2

As we mentioned in April, Tiffany Williams popped over to see our Regional and National Development Squads to talk all things nutrition.  Well our younger swimmers got wind of this and were upset to miss out on the fabulous banana bread so Tiffany kindly came back in May to see our Regional Development Squads. Again Tiffany was a huge hit.

Stay fast, stay focused
